Magical Shaker Wands: Rainbow Edition

If you're looking for a fun and easy craft project to do with your kids, a shaker wand is a great option. This project was inspired back in 2019 by my daughter's love for snow globes and her desire to have one that she could shake any time of year. With a clear plastic Christmas ornament and a few other materials, we created a magical wand that has brought us and others so much joy. Here's how you can make your own shaker wand:

Materials:

Clear plastic Christmas ornament or candy container

Small beads, glitter, and confetti

Wooden pod or other decorative item for the base of the wand

Yarn or ribbon

Hot glue gun

Step 1: Remove the top of the Christmas ornament and fill it with small beads, glitter, and confetti. You can mix and match these materials to create the shakable effect you want.

Step 2: Once the ornament is filled, put the top back on and secure it with hot glue.

Step 3: Use the hot glue gun to attach the wooden pod or other decorative item to the bottom of the ornament. This will create the handle of the wand.

Step 4: Wrap yarn or ribbon around the base of the ornament and handle to create a more finished look. Use hot glue to secure the yarn or ribbon in place.

Step 5: Allow the wand to dry completely before using it. Once it's ready, your child can shake the wand to see the beads and glitter swirl around and create a magical effect.

Creating a shaker wand is a simple and fun project that can spark your child's creativity and imagination. It's also a great way to spend quality time together and make something that you'll both treasure. And, as I mentioned on Instagram, it's been wonderful to see how this craft project has inspired a community of makers. So give it a try, and who knows? You might just be the next person to share your shaker wand creation and inspire others to create their own magical wands.
